OUR STORY

Boggy Creek Savannas is situated on Kautz Farms, which was established in 1939 by my parents, Roland and Ella Nora Kautz. It is 140 acres of beautiful farm land in Central Texas and bordered on the southern edge by Boggy Creek.

Beef cattle were raised until 2007 when they were sold due to draught conditions and high prices. I bought my first head of does after selling the cattle. These does were full blood show quality Boers. I raised quality show goats with many Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion animals. These Boer does were the foundation to my percentage and pure bred Savanna stock.

After raising Boers for 11 years, I began to look for a heartier animal. I purchased a full blood buck and cross bred with my existing Boers and realized that even a 50% Savanna proved to be a much more sturdy animal and resolved to transition to Savannas. The following year I purchased multiple full blood animals from a Texas breeder and am successfully building my full blood herd.

Why Choose Savannas

  • Natural resistance to parasites

  • Savanna does are superior mothers - ease of birth, good milkers, protective of their young

  • Savanna kids follow their mothers usually by the second day and begin grazing

  • Savanna kids grow fast with impressive weight gain

  • Attractive breed with characteristics of Boers but only white, with an occasional red head usually found in the percentage animals

  • Can be crossed with other breeds to improve profit by adding muscle
